Speeding ticket NY New DriverWhat is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? NY Hi, I was pulled over for 83/65 on I-81. I've had my license for abt 5 months and I am 25 years old...the weather was good and the road was not too crowded. What could the outcome be? Is it true that my license might be suspended for 60 days? Please advise what I should do? plead guilty? Thanks |

However, in this case, it appears that your speeding ticket (18 over limit) is a four point hit. As noted in my later post, this incurs a 'license suspension' for probabationary drivers. For more, go to: http://www.statedrivinglaw.com/new-york-driving-law.html

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport! | But is there some kind of probation period for the first six months? Also, can the points be taken off thru a defensive driving course? |

Yes, there is a 6 month probation period for all new drivers, starting from the date you passed your road test (not when you got your license). Quote:
In the future, perhaps you'll be smart enough not to speed while on probation.

While on probation, if you commit a traffic violation of three points or more, or two violations of two points or less, (examples: speeding, reckless driving, tailgating, failure to yield right-of-way, any violation of a signal light or stop sign), your license will be suspended for 60 days. Even if you complete an approved Drinking Driver Program and your full driving privileges are reinstated in fewer than 60 days, your license suspension will continue until the end of the probationary license period. If you commit a violation of three points or more, or two violations of two points or less, within the first six months after you receive your license back following suspension or revocation, your permit or license will be revoked for at least six months." | Suspension is for 2 months, and it doesn't matter if you were driving your car, a rental, or a tank. Nor will it affect your ability to purchase a new car, since a valid liccense is not required to do so. However, the dealer may not let you drive it off the lot if you are not licensed. And having lived here since 1980, I can tell you firsthand that the fireworks are better on TV. You rushed for nothing.

If it makes you feel any better, traffic lawyers charge $200 in NYC, so his price is more than fair.
