Speeding ticket in WI, I live in IL

What is the name of your state? Illinois

Two weekends ago I was traveling thru Wisconsin. I got caught in a laser trap and got pulled over. The cop gave me a ticket for a 83 in a 65 which in WI is a $230 fine and est. 4 points. I live in IL and the cop mentioned that the points wouldn't transfer. Now I don't know if she said that to get me to pay the fine and not fight the ticket or what. My two main questions are these:

1) How does a speeding ticket effect my record being I live (and have a driver's license in) IL?

2) If I pay the ticket, will my insurance find out/go up?

and last I was wondering if it would be worth pleaing not guilty and goign to court to see if i can get it lowered. I work out of state 4 days a week so it would be difficult to make it but I would try if i knew that i had a good chance of getting the ticket reduced (since it was a trap-type ticket, they probably gave a lot out and dont want to go to every one that they give).

Thanks

She is correct, WI's points stay here.

It will be reported to IL, what they decide to do about it is up to them (i.e. put it on your record, etc.)

Depends upon how frequently your insurance company decides to check your record.

If you plead not-guilty, you'll get a pre-trial conference with the prosecutor. You can try to plead your case to him/her to knock 3MPH off there and drop it to $181...ultimately, it's up to him/her whether to accept or reject.

Ok thanks. My last question then is will an insurance company see the 18 over any differently then if it was lowered to 15 with a lesser fine? I understand IL's system, so depending on what the insurance company would see, thats if i decide its worth it to plea not guilty and try to get it lessened.

WI reports speeding violations as follows:

S (Speeding) - 1-10 Over
SI (Speeding Intermediate) - 11-19 Over
SE (Speeding Excess) - 21+ Over

In other words, there is no distinction between going 18 MPH over and 11 MPH over (other than the fine).
