in CT, i received a speeding ticket from the state police. the date on the ticket is wrong. i do not live in CT and was not in CT on the date stated on the ticket. can i avoid the ticket because of the wrong date? I went to a hearing and they offered to cut the fine to $100. i stupidly said no, mostly because things were moving so fast and i have never done this before. now they gave me a court date to come back later. if I have to go to trial - should i hire an attorney? Is the wrong date sufficient grounds to defend myself? at this point, can i just pay the original fine and avoid court?

thanks
