Question

Statute of limitations

What is the name of your state? CA

Is there a statute of limitations for collecting a traffic fine? I received a speeding ticket in Nevada seven years ago. I paid the ticket. Now, after seven years, the court in Nevada contacted me via 1st class mail to inform me that a warrent has been issued.

Obviously, after seven years, I no longer have the records to prove I paid. Is there a statute of limitation to how long they have to collect. Seven years with no contact, and now they want their money?

The letter says I can pay $200 or post $600 and set a new trial date.

-There are no statute of limitations due to a warrant being issued.

Regardless of whether you paid the citation or not...if the court has no record and you cannot prove you paid it, then it did not happen.

If you actually paid it, I would talk to your bank to see if you can obtain a copy of the check.

If no record are available I would opt for the $200 and get it over with. You could always pay the $600 and get a new court date but if you lose your out more money.
