A friend of mine was given a ticket on stop sign violation in California. She happens to have a Michigan license at that time. Soon after the incident, her Michigan license expired.

She is now settled in California and may apply for a license in California. Does she still have to pay for the ticket despite the fact that the ticket was given on a Michigan license that has EXPIRED?

What is going to be the consequence if she does not pay the ticket? Will this impact her getting a new California's driving license?

She is also required to take a course to remove the stop sign ticket from her driving record. Because the ticket is on her expired driver's license, can she opt not to take the course?

Lets put it this way, if she does not do any thing i.e., does not apply for a new California's driver's license, does she still have to pay for the ticket? If your answer is Yes, please justify for our understanding.

Please guide us.

Thanks

Kind Regards

She will have to deal with the ticket. If not, she can face criminal penalties.

Revisiting the same issue does not change the answer... Nothing wrong with what you received in your other thread:

Yes, she will have to pay the citation. If she fails to take care of the citation, a hold will be placed on her license and she could find her privilege to drive in CA suspended. if that happens, any vehicle she operates could be subject to impound for thirty days.

She should take care of her citation and then apply for a valid CA license. if she is driving on an expired Michigan license and has been in CA for over ten days, she is currently driving without a license in CA and is technically committing a misdemeanor criminal offense.
