suspended license?

What is the name of your state?LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA
I was pulled over for speeding .The officer told me my license was suspended so my vehicle
was impounded.I was 'nt able to get my car out because of the suspended license, and my car was later put to auction and i lost the car...and eventually lost my job.(that was 6 months ago!) I went to the dmv to get a California ID and was told that my license was not suspended.(only expired)and i still have a court date in march where i have to pay 1300 dollars. So my question is why do i have to lose my car ,job and 1300 dollars if my license is'nt suspended? What is the name of your state?

There's only a technical difference between "expired" and "suspended", but they pretty much mean the same thing. The difference is that if it were suspended, you would typically need a note from the court saying it was ok to reinstate your license. Either way, expired or suspended, you were not allowed to be driving on that license, so they were acting within their authority to impound your car.

Also, I think it's very irresponsible of you to try blaming the police for you losing your job. Even if you didn't have a vehicle (I'm assuming you lost your job for not showing up), you could have rode a bike, asked people for rides, taken the bus, etc.

ask yourself - why did you wait for so long? Knowing your license was suspended should have been a good wake-up call

More of the same - why on earth would you put yourself into a situation you can't get out of?

That's the price you pay for being procrastinator. I just paid $7 extra for forgetting my parking ticket - whom do I blame?

Expiration means automatic suspension. Yes, you could have forgotten, but why didn't you tell that to the officer? Moreover, why didn't you check with DMV the very next day? All you needed to do is pay the late fees, and get your license back. In the meantime, anybody with the license could have gotten your car out!

If you are still reading after this lecture, my advice:
  • to get out of this mess, your only course of action is to pay the late fees and get the license back, then get through the court, if you loose pay the ticket. If you can't pay because you have no income, arrange the payment schedule with the court, or use your credit card. Then, think of getting a job, etc.
