Suspension of license for failure to pay Bond???

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NEW YORK:

I got a red light ticket for turning onto an intersection back in January. Because of my busy work schedule and being a single mom (also my first time getting a ticket ever in 20 yrs!!) I hired a lawyer and paid them $350 to represent me. To make a long story short, lawyer's office wrote me an email saying that the total due to them is $40 for the bond payment. I called them immediately to make a credit card payment but the girl told me I could mail it to them as long as they get it before the next court date which is 6/22 (They adjourned it twice). I got a notice for failure to pay bond 4 days later and I called the office. Girl said dont worry, we paid the bond already the day after that letter came. Letter was dated 5/8 and she said they paid it 5/9. 2 days after another letter came to me dated 5/11 for suspension of my license for failure to pay the $40 bond!!!! Of course, I am very very upset because now I feel very handicapped without a car and with a child. I dont live close to buses or trains! Do you think the bond payment and notice of suspension crossed each other? Is the DMV that quick in suspending licenses? The court date was 5/7 and they suspended my license 5/11??? Please give me some advice.. Also, will the suspension show up in my abstract even if it is cleared? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Possibly, but that means that as far as the DMV your license is still suspended so I caution you against driving until you can verify its status with the DMV.

Sounds about right… A Couple of day for them to receive the hold notice from the court and a day or so to enter it into the system.

1. Don’t drive until you can be sure that your driving privilege has been reinstated.
2. Contact your attorney and ask them for some sort of proof that the bond was paid in full.
3. Contact the DMV and ask them what you need to bring to have your driving privilege reinstated.
4. Take the required documentation to your nearest DMV office and pay the required fees (if any) to have your driving privilege reinstated.

Probably “yes”. it would show that it was “suspended” then “reinstated”. Check with the DMV though, they could answer that best.

Good luck Miss Daisy!
