What is the name of your state? TEXAS

I received a letter in January addressed to my maiden name saying that 18 years ago I received a speeding ticker (6 miles over) and that it was never paid and now they want a bunch of money or they will issue an arrest warrant. I have no idea if I even received this ticket 18 years ago, let alone if I paid it. Do I have to just trust them and pay the high fine? How do I know it's legitimate?

Thanks

For some reason there is a lot of this showing up out of Texas. I would respond directly to the court stating that you paid the fine and want the case reopened. I have no idea whether this will work or not. If the letter was from a collection agency/law office then also send a reply to them demanding verification.
