What is the name of your state? NJ

This morning I got a tailgating ticket which I later realized is a hefty 5 pointer.
I was on a 40mile road, doing 37 and the cop just came from behind, pulled me over and told me that I was too close to the car in front of me. He said I was 2 car spaces behind whereas I should be 4 car spaces behind. And he gave me this ticket.
I have a clean record. Had 2 points before but that was 4 years ago.
Please help me with your responses.
I am trying to see how to get rid of these points, or at most reduce them to 2 points.
Anybody that went through this scenario?
Would the prosecuter reduce the points on a tailgating ticket?

Please, Any input from you will be helpful....

Go to traffic court ahead of time to observe the proceedings.

Perhaps you will be given the opportunity to plead to an unsafe operation charge which costs more $ but doesn't have any points.

YMMV.
