Ticket Fell Through the Cracks

I got a speeding ticket. I fought the case but lost it in front of the jury. I appealed in the higher court and the higher court didn't send me a date for a long time. When I called the higher court they told me the ticket fell through the crack so they gave me a date. I told the court let the ticket be as it is and I will call you when I will get the time to come in the court.
Can some body explain me what does falling through the crack means and what shall I do now. Shall I let the ticket remain fallen through the crack or what?

You do this at your own risk; better make sure it is resolved one way or the other or it may haunt you at a really inconvenient time in the future.
