Ticket for not having headlights on

What is the name of your state? Texas
I was an idiot and forgot to turn on my headlights at 11pm. I just completely forgot and the streets were pretty well lit. I got pulled over in Austin and got a $140 ticket. I could care less about the fine, just that I don't want the points. I am from NJ and assuming this is a moving violation, I will get two points on my record.

So I am not sure what do, plead guilty with an excuse or not guilty and talk to the prosecutor. My dad told me to hire a lawyer but I think it seems overkill. My record is clean but I've only had my license for less than a year. Any advice?
