| | | Tickets being mailed without pulling you over Hey, I am from Pennsylvania. Every weekend 100's of street racers gather to drag race. Here is my question. yes street racing is illegal. but i feal the way cops are handing out tickets is wrong. Many of my friends have gotten tickets in the mail. Under cover cops are going around writing down peoples liscence plates. even people who arent racing and just watching are getting these tickets. now the cops dont have any photo's or anything. just someone walking around with a piece of paper writing down plate numbers. the fine my friends have gotten where for highway racing even if they werent even racing. i beleive the penalty is a $600 fine and a 6 month suspension. my question is; is it legal for the way the police are getting there information? and what can someone do if they get one of these tickets?
thanks,
John

"b) General rule.--No person shall drive a vehicle on a highway in any race, speed competition or contest, drag race or acceleration contest, test of physical endurance, exhibition of speed or acceleration, or for the purpose of making a speed record, and no person shall in any manner participate in any such race, competition, contest, test or exhibition."
This could be interpreted, and obviously the police have, to mean that anyone who even watches is also guilty. The penalties are stiff. First offense is a 200 fine and six month suspension. Second is 1000 fine and possible six months in jail. Third offense is a five year suspension.
Actually these are light compared to what could happen to you or your friends. In our area two racers were recently killed and a passenger seriously injured. Its not worth it. |

You were stupid enough to be at a drag race, you got caught now pay the fine or go to the DJ and plead your case. | |
