I was on my way home and a state trooper pulled me over. Like always I pull over to the side of the road put my 4-way flashers on, unroll the windows, and put on my interior lights. The officer comes up and tells me he has pulled me over for 2 reasons 1. I crossed over the shoulder line or center line (I asked him and he didn’t want to answer my question) 2. My tint is too dark. He also asked if I was drunk and where I was heading and where I was coming from.

Sure enough he came back with a tint meter and had me roll up my window and the reading was 23%. I don't see how he could tell how dark my windows are if he was behind me (my rear window has no tint), unless he saw me earlier in town and noticed he was following me for about 8 miles. I had just bought the car from Oklahoma and recently just registered the vehicle in Minnesota. I was pulled over before for tint and the officers said it was fine by a visual inspection (could see me inside just fine).

I'm appearing in court December 8th for the ticket. Our law says all passenger vehicles must not have more than 50% tint on all windows, with exceptions with trucks, vans, SUVs, and limousine. Under our law my car is defined as limousine.

I also talked with an owner of a tint shop and he said a guy with a Cadillac got a tint ticket and hired an attorney and beat the ticket saying his car is a limo. Also, I don’t need a chauffer license or have my car registered as a limousine since my vehicle is used for my own personal use.

Do you think I have a case in court? All advice is appreciated.

Thanks, Darin
