recently my girlfiend and i were t-boned making a left turn on a green arrow.she was issued a citation for failing to yield to oncoming traffic while the other driver (who ran the red light well over the posted speed limit) was issued a ticket for open container (florida). the officer on the scene said to just pay the fine by the due date. when we went to do so, we were told that because there were injuries, we would have to appear in court. is this accurate information? we are also filing a civil suit separately and don't know how this ticket issue might affect that filing. any info would be helpfull. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Criminal (or a traffic citation in your girl friend's case) will have little bearing during a civil trial. Remember O.J.?

not regarded as snarky at all. just wondering if we should pay it, plead no contest or dispute it (we have a witness who will testify that the other driver ran the red light) any thoughts?

Why would you not fight the charge? You supposedly have a witness. Is that witness willing to appear in court for you?
