| The lazar radar gun can read speeds up to 2 miles as long as the road is level. Unlike the older style of radar guns, it cannot read speeds on hills and inclines accurately unless the officer is at the same plane. The officer was correct in not allowing you to see the radar gun also. The Supreme Court ruled in 1994 that the officers safety is more important than allowing a suspect to view the radar gun. To view the radar gun, the officer would have to allow access to the front seat of the patrol car. This is not allowed for safety reasons.
