Question

trying to clear up traffic fines/suspensions, but...

I was pulled over about 6 months ago, for a blown tail light in Nebraska, I was driving under a suspended license from Iowa so they gave me a ticket and a court date, b/c i was scared of getting put in jail i never showed up for the court date. (i'm stupid i know...) I got a notice that there was a warrant out for my arrest, I now want to get this all taken care of, but i have a friend who had sort of the same thing happening and when he went to the courthouse to take care of the tickets he was arrested, and put in jail. i dont really know the whole story w/ him i.e.; what other tickets/warrants he had etc; but i was wondering if the same thing would happen w/ me. i have no other offences besides the traffic ticket, and really just want to get this cleared up, but would rather pay the fines and take care of all of this instead of going to jail and then paying the same fines. any ideas?

(sorry this is so long)

Why don't you try calling the court house and see what they say.

You could consult an attorney in the area of the ticket and warrant. A fine and community service might be an option.
Your not going to find out what kind of deal you can get until you start making phone calls.

How did you notice there was a warrant for your arrest?

i got a letter in the mail. it really didnt say much on it other than that there was a warrant out for my arrest, for failure to appear.

my licensce was suspending while i was in high school and (2yrs ago) i've been trying to avoid it for too long. i've finally grown up a bit and realized i need to take responsibility for myself and im trying to get all this cleared up, but really dont want to go to jail for traffic stuff, i really can't afford it, plus it doesnt sound like much fun.

i guess i'm just wondering if i just call the courthouse if that will bring attention to my warrant and then have someone knocking at my door to arrest me a couple days after i call to find out how to take care of it? i really cant afford to get a lawyer, that why i'm on this message board...

calling the courthouse won't make any difference-the first time you get stopped by the police will,so call and find out how much the warrants going to cost to clear and get on with it
