types of misdemeanors

I live in Florida now, but when I was in Virginia, in traffic court I was found guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor (failure to yield to pedestrian in crosswalk) and paid a $15.00 fine. I am now filling out a job application, which states "Have you ever been convicted of a felony or first degree misdemeanor?" Do I check yes or no? I'm wondering if my little class 1 misdemeanor is the same as a first degree misdemeanor. It really wasn't that big of a deal and I find it silly that it would be on the same level as a felony. I just want to be honest about everything on a job application...and this confuses me. Thank you!
