i was given a summons for leaving my vehicle running while unattended
if this is truly illegal, are not Car Remote Starters themselves illegal - as their sole purpose facilitates an illegal activity ?

Car remote starters will start the engine, but you can't drive it until the key is put in the ignition. In your case a 6 year old could have walked right up and attempted to drive off. It's like leaving a loaded gun on the sidewalk in front of yor house, and then claiming you're not responsable for what happens!
