Unlawful speedometer

What is the name of your state?New York

I was pulled over and clocked at 36 mph in a 30 mph zone. The cop gave me a ticket for unlawful speedometer. i was told to plead not guilty and bring in the service sheet saying that I had it fixed. Will this drop everything or will I still have to pay a fine. Will I get points and will it effect my insurance?

what is an unlawful speedometer?

I've never heard of such a thing or a ticket for it.

What I was told is that it just means that your speedometer is off. That you were going faster then what your speedometer says you were

I've never heard of that being a violation. But things have changed since I left there.

The officer is probably telling you the truth.

It might be like they do with lights out. Bring in proof you've had it fixed and case dismissed.

First get the speedometer fixed and show the papers to the court clerk.

If the service shop says there is nothing wrong with it that could be proof you were speeding. So find another shop.

Equipment was no points in ny.
