WA Speeding Ticket

Washington State--Hey guy's i was on the main street in Edmonds my town, anyways it was St.Patricks day i was going down a fairly large/long hill, and there was a cop coming up the hill about 3/4 of the way down, i was going down in second gear probably 35 or so and i had 2 people in the car who were looking at my spedo while i was going down, anyways the cops see's me comes to a complete stop while i'm a ways away i pass him, and he flips around follows me i'm going 30 now and he goes code and pulls me over and said i was going 53 in a 30. I know for a fact it's complete BS as my car hits 45 in second gear before redlining. Anyways he said he picked up on on his in car radar which aparently works while working, the ticket was for 225 bucks. I want to get it knocked off my record completly and i can get a lawyer for 300 who could do it, or i could get it deffered, first traffic violation i've ever recieved... Any input would be great

Pay your ticket and go to traffic school, or
plead not guilty and the cop will be at your next hearing. YOUR CALL.

In fact, you are so astonishingly correct in this matter, it will not surprise us one bit if you are offered a generous settlement, because, by golly, that’s just how it should be.

Traffic school is not an option in Washington. Police officer's are not required to attend traffic court hearings unless subpeona'd in Washington. I would say the $300 for an attorney would be a good investment.

Talking

Here's some advice.

Make a request for discovery.

You can find samples of discovery letters on the internet.

You have to make the discovery request at least 14 days ahead of time.

They have to respond at least 7 days prior to the court date. If you do the timing right they will only have 7 days to get it to you.

Read the back of the ticket carefully and compare it with your copy of the statute you were cited for.

If you really have 2 witnesses that are willing to swear in court that you weren't speeding that may sway the judge.

A lawyer up here that 'guarantees' ticket dismissal just files for discovery on his legal letterhead and the prosecutor always chooses to 'forget' to comply so he gets it dismissed.

You state you can get a lawyer for $300, why do you want me to find you one? $300 is a bargain. And there is a good chance your friends won't be of any help at all, the prosecutor will likely ask that their testimony be omitted as they are hostile witnesses. And letters won't be allowed, the judge or prosecutor can't question a letter. And in your request for discovery, you have to ask for specific documents, just asking for discovery alone will get you nothing.
