went thru red light

What is the name of your state? NJ
I work nights in Camden NJ. I was coming home on a deserted street at midnight when another car made a right on red and almost hit me. He went ahead of me, but stopped repeatedly. I felt he was trying to "tap" me which is where a car causes an accident with another car and then when the victum gets out of the car they are robbed or carjacked. I went through the next red light to get away from him (the streets were deserted and I went thru after stopping and checking for traffic) and was pulled over by the police. WHEN I attempted to explain to the officer he got angry so I shut up not wishing to get into an argument in the middle of the night. What defense can I make to this charge of running a red light?
