What r my rights?

What is the name of your state? Massachusetts

i was ramdonly stopped this afternoon , if there its such thing as ramdonly stops, and come to find out the very young officer that pull me over had run my plates through their computer and to my amazement said i was unregister an uninsured. i get a citation my car gets impounded to an unknown location and i am left walking but the sad thing its that when i paid my insurance it had been cancelled, and on that date 7/16/03 it got reinstated and asked theme to informed the registry to what they said they do. i paid 1 month ahead left thinking everything its ok and then this happens. can i file a civil sue against the agency since i have all the documents of my payments. i would loose a day of work not to mentioned i have to pay the towing company and storage fees for the 3 days. has anyone out there gone through this or know some one that has? please send me your input. i would greatly appreciated. thanks

Yes it is legal since you do not own the plates nor do you have an expectation of privacy. You can sue whoever you wish but it will get laughed out of court.

"said i was unregister an uninsured"

This is two separate issues but from your confusing post it is impossible to tell what you are actually talking about.

Unregistered means that you have not paid your taxes and registered you vehicle with the DMV. In simpler terms your tags have expired. If they were current you are required to have your registation card in the vehicle to present to the officer.

Uninsured means that you have not paid your insurance and it has been reported to the DMV as being canceled. If your insurance is current then you are supposed to have documentation of insurance in the vehicle to present to the officer.
It is likely that the report had just not been updated to show that you had renewed.

In other words you are the one at fault for not having the proper documentation and the officer did what his job requires. Pay your insurance on time and you can avoid these type of problems. In addition having your insurance canceled for nonpayment will increase your rates. You always cancel if you cannot pay and then park the car.

listen i don`t know what state your from but in here the, unregister comes from a number of things and one its when your insurance gets cancelled it then reports to the Registry of Motor Vehicles "RMV" not the DMV as it just happened to me. the other its when your plate`s sticker expires. the others are when you don`t pay your traffic violations or your excise tax. thanks for the reply may be you `ll understand it know a little bit clearer.

what your talking about willis????????????????????????????
may be if you explain yourself a little bit better i might have a clue to what your talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????
the insurance agency fail to report the reinstatement of my policy why should i be liable for their mistake it was an error on their part not mine. thats why you go through the agency so they can do the little things you don`t feell like doing, i mean after all thats why they are getting pay to be the " middle men ". if i was the one to report to the RMV of my reinstatement why would i need an insurance agent. hellooooooooooo anybody home.
thanks for the reply but i suggest you read the fine print before replying.after all i did asked if anyone outhere has gone through this or know some one that has.blnxt.

Ok highspeed. Your plate was run randomly. Since you do not have an expectation of privacy (wonder why plates are given an unobstructed view on both the front (in some states) and rear of your vehicle), your plate was ran and it came back with it being non registered for insurance (and in Mass RMV is the same as DMV). You are liable to make sure ALL your paperwork is completed. Just because the insurance company didnt send the paperwork in on time is not there problem, its your problem.
