I live in Washington state, and I received a traffic ticket (RCW 46.61.440) for driving 38 MPH on a major road in front of school. The usual speed limit on that road is 40MPH, and I was under the impression that the School zone speed limit of 20MPH applies only during school hours or when children are present. I recieved the ticket at 8:50am and school begins at 9:25am. I believe the school bus system drops of students to the school around 9:10am. Do you think arguing that the school zone speed limit did not necessarily apply is good argument?

Any suggestions insight or guidance would be much appreciated.
