Collection of publishing royalties, mechanicals, etc

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Where this occurred is New York, New York but I now live in Los Angeles, California. I have been writing, producing and "Publishing" my own music for more than 22 years. Have not collected or audited for royalties in that period. Have had several Billboard Charted records and have worked with some top production companies, labels and organizations. Many of the songs have sold with me still owning my publishing. Need an attorney.

Sounds like you do.

Had you signed with a publisher? If so, they should be acting for you.
Have you signed up with one of the PROs (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC)?

22 years is along time to go without bothering to inquire as to your material.
You may have waited too long for some of it.

You certainly should contact an attorney. Fortunately, California is one place where you can practically trip over an entertainment law attorney every time you walk down the street. Make sure you do a little due diligence on the attorney before you hire him or her. You need someone with experience following up on old claims. I have an article which you can find at Finding and Selecting a Business Attorney :: Illinois Business Attorney which has some suggestions for locating and interviewing an attorney.

Good luck.
