High School Football

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TN

OK. We have had the same problem for years now. My son ( a current senior) place football and has for 5 years. His main position has always been QuarterBack. Our problem is a Junior who is what we refer to as " the bain of our football existence". Our Offensive coordinator and Head Coach have choose to play the Junior as opposed to our more experienced and larger son. The basis is the relationship between the Head Coach and the Junior's parents. (This is not admitted) The offensive coordinator has also made a statement to another senior Running-Back that he could not play offensively because "you can only run the ball effectively on offensive if you are black." (a little reverse descrimination, I'd say) The point to all of this is our senior class is side-lined continuously because "They are 'building' a team". In the interium our kids are not getting the college exposure needed to get ANY potential scholarships. I would like to know if there is potential for a case here......the basis....."The actions of these two coaches are impinging the right to a secondary education with the relevance of building a future team." Many of these students cannot afford a college education without being considered for an atheletic scholarship. By the way, our current standings......1-4. Seems somethings not working, huh?
I really appreciate ANY imput. The local politics of high school sports has got to end somewhere, sometime. Dustin

Advice?

I know many a child (mine included) who will probably get athletic AND academic scholarships. Why? Because he's in the top third of his class. Should have pushed the academics first and the sports last. If one doesn't pan out, then the other will.

It's the coach's team. He can do what he wants. Besides, with the money you would spend on a lawsuit, you could have paid Jr's way through college and by the time it gets settled, he'd already have his degree.

There are over 1,000,000 (yep, one million) seniors playing football at the hight school level this fall. There are only about 4100 full ride college scholarships available at the Division 1 and 2 level. There are about 12,000 scholarships of any kind to play football at the college level. About 75% of the D1 scholarships are already spoken for. How many offers has your son recieved? His odds of getting a full ride scholarship if he played is extremely long at best and astronomical if he hasn't already drawn attention from college coaches and recruiters. Your son had a 1.2% chance of getting any kind of scholarship, your odds of winning a lawsuit like this is a whole lot less.

That... sounded a lot like one of those word problems my son was working on. You only left out, "what time will the train get to Los Angeles?"

No, there is nothing legal you can do.

Period.

Are you really asking if there is a law that will force your son's coach to play him more?

Really?

Do you really want to spend a bunch of money to be laughed out of court? To become the punchline for late night comics? For people all across the country to wonder just what the hell your problem is and why you didn't, instead, spend your money and time making your son a better person rather than teaching him that he can sue his way into whatever he wants? That you want to use the win loss record of a high school football team as the basis of a lawsuit?

Really?

Um, no.. there isn't a law to force your son's coach to play him more. Yes, it is also legal for Coach to play your boy LESS because you are a pain in his ass.

Is that plain enough?
