Sitcom Treatment

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
California
A producer has asked me for a sitcom treatment. No moneys or agreements to be exchanged other than I want to perform in it and be head writer. How do I the writer, protect my interests in this project if it in fact does move forward? This producer explains that even he has no control that network will appoint ex. producer that will call all the shots casting writers etc. How does one then move forward smartly to retain my rights interests and be in a stronger negotiating position? Is it better to write the teleplay? Any help would be great....

Sounds like you know very, very little about show business. I can't imagine anyone agreeing to your expectations to be head writer and part of the acting ensemble. I'm leery of a producer who would ask someone like you to do a treatment without something being in writing regarding how said treatment will be handled. You should have an agent looking after your interests, someone who knows the right questions to ask and the traps this situation suggests.
