Streaming workouts live from Karate Club?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York
I belong to a Karate School in which the owner just installed video cameras; supposedly for security. We found out later that our classes were being viewed live on the web for anyone to see, without our permission & knowledge. They are being used for free advertisement for the owner's karate school. Is this legal in New York State??

Illegal? As in a crime? Probably not.

However unless you've consented to being broadcast it's probably civilly actionable. Why don't you get a group of aggrieved people (seems likely you'll find more than one) to chip in on a lawyer.

So OP - did you sign a written consent? Read your contract carefully before answering.
