| Who owns the rights to music works?

Hello, I have a question concerning our band's situation. We are currently being "handled" by two guys that have been paying for our studio time whilst we are finnishing our cd. We did however give the studio 800$ of our own money, but seeing how this is our first time we did not receive am invoice. The two guys have received invoices so they have a paper trail of the money they have put into the cd. We have not signed any contracts with these guys and want to know what rights they/we hold towards the finnished product. The copyright for the songs has already been registered with SOCAN, but we want to know about the finnished cd. Could they sell the cd and only give us royalties without a written contract? Or do we hold all the cards and they are just funding us |
