Although the First Amendment prohibits the FCC from censoring program material, it can enforce statutory and regulatory provisions that restrict certain content. I recommend, therefore, that you review carefully what the federal and Utah state laws say about the broadcasting of indecent, obscene, and patently offensive material.

Then, any warning should expressly state that the following material is for adults only and contains ___, and ___, and ____. It is not intended for viewers under the age of 18. The blanks should be filled in with whatever adult content your cartoon contains, whether it be violence, nudity, profanity, etc. You can find examples of "screen warnings" online and pick one or fashion your own with the wording most appropriate for your cartoon.

Again, however, review the laws regulating broadcasts! Airing your cartoon during certain times of the day, no matter how explicit your screen warnings may be, can result in hefty fines and jail time.

(check out Title 18 U.S.C., Chapter 71 and Chapter 110, and go to http://attorneygeneral.utah.gov/pornography/obscenepornlaws.htm. for more information)
