What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Washington state

Hello, I am interested in creating a new charitable non profit corporation to pursue a specific long term scientific research goal in the public interest with other researchers. The results of our research would be given freely to the public.

From what I've read it is required to first choose a board. Since I would appoint the board is it a "conflict of interest" if I am paid a salary for full time research along with the other researchers?

Can I also be a board member?

If this does represent a "conflict of interest" is it one that can be solved simply by stepping out and not voting on anything regarding me?

Also is there a minimum legal number of board members?

Thank you very much for any suggestions you can give.
