My stepdaughter is 20 years old and employed full time with her own health insurance. Yet a hospital insists on billing her father, not her, for an emergency room visit. Isn't she considered an adult and responsible for her own debts? Are we still responsible for her medical debts? We're in Tennessee, if that matters.

Unless the child custody decree specified that he had to provide insurance or pay her medicals until she was 21, hubby's not responsible. He should write the hospital and tell them he is not responsible for her bills & not to contact him further. Probably the hospital has listed him as responsible for the bills back when she was under 18 & never updated its records.
