We are in Arizona and have received a Summons in the mail for money owed to a company. We also received a collection notice from a company at the same time.We responded to the summons, which was sent from Tennessee, stating the $ will be paid and notified the collection co the $ will be paid.We also just recently rec'd a notice from ANOTHER attorney stating we needed to send THEM the $. Who do we send the $ to so we can avoid any judgements or credit problems later on?The corporation was dissolved in Dec of 1999.

Send copies of all 3 summonses/letters to the attorney & demand proof that the attorney is the corp's current agent for collection, and demand copies of the letters the attorney sends to the collection agency & the company instructing them not to pursue your account, as payments will be made to the attorney. Inform the attorney that if s/he doesn't get this mess straightened out & tell you which single entity you are supposed to pay, you'll sue all 3 of them for illegally attempting to collect a debt three times. Make it clear that you're willing to pay, but will not make any payments until you have assurances that the other 2 collectors won't pursue legal action on their own while you are paying the third.

This is not legal advice and you are not my client. Double check everything with your own attorney and your state's laws.
