Hi,

I am starting a web design business. I have been looking through various sample contracts on the Internet and they all have a place for the designer to sign and for the customer to sign. Could someone tell me if it is OK to allow just the customer to sign the contract and mail it in, instead of me needing to be there with them and sign it at the same time?

Thanks.

My response:

No, you don't have to be there. However, as a safety measure, place the following near where the parties are going to sign:

"This agreement is not valid until each party to this agreement has signed it. Anything but the party's signatures affixed hereto shall render this agreement null and void."

Then, when the other guy mails it back to you, sign it, and send a copy back, by Certified Return Receipt Requested.
