What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

I'm trying to start a website business, which is basically the same as a pre-existing site. Trying to give them some competition, but two sites that serve the same purpose. Would it be unlawful to directly copy their terms and conditions? If so, are lawyers expensive to hire just to write up terms/conditions? Thanks for any help.

It is almost certainly illegal to copy their expression of the terms verbatim.

The terms themselves are not protected by copyright. So find out what they are and write them down.

The terms aren't of much use legally (as the maintainers of this site found out with one disruptive member). Essentially, it just gives you an excuse to terminate the offenders use of your site.
