What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ohio

Hello,

I started a website design business and turned it into a sole proprietorship LLC.

Through this business I created a content management system which I am marketing under its own name as a "subsidiary" of the website design LLC.

Will creating a "Trade Name" for the content management system, registered under my LLC, allow me to market the system as its own entity?

I apologize if this is unclear, for example "My Design Company Ltd." created "My Content Management System", currently the content management system is marketed as "My Content Management System", will creating the trade name "My Content Management System" allow me to operate the content management system independently in a sense?

Thank you for any input or advice! -Ben

While you can legally use a different name if you do it appropriately, there will not be a segregation of liability if you do so. It is all one entity.

Thank you, this is what I assumed. Basically I would like to register the trade name under my llc, making the llc liable, while still being able to use "My content management system" on invoices, letterhead, email etc..
