in oct 1999 i followed a link to "park a domain name for free" at a site called easy-space .i followed the instructions just entering the domain name i wanted and my addresses (note nothing about billing info).a while later i received a bill ($70 registration fee) from a company called network solutions who i had not heard of. i did not pay their bill as i requested no such registration service.

fwd to apr 2000
i recieved an email from an agency claiming to be a collection service on behalf of network solutions . they claim they completed their obligation to me and i owe them money for registration services. i disputed the validity of their claim in a reply.

i did not attempt to register the domain name, the domain name in question remains unregistered . they are demanding monies from me for services they did not even do.

i am concerned . can they obtain a judgement against me ??? i have searched thru the ICANN archives and this network solutions company has done this to other people. they're tactics seem very monopolistic and corrupt.

my question is am i obligated to pay this company for services i didnt want and they havent rendered???

My response:

No, you don't. They must comply with your dispute letter under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and must comply therewith before they can do anything. You inform them, today, that if you so much as see a "hair" on your credit report as a result of their tactics, you'll begin a lawsuit faster than they can say, "We want our money."
