Gun range regulations

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TX.

What are the requirements for a gun range owner regarding burms or other precautions so the bullets don't go past property. I have a friend that recently bought property and there is a gun range that has a very low burm and the bullet went past it and into his house. The business owner told him it wasn't his problem and the Mayor said he shouldn't have bought the house! There must be some laws. Or can you tell me where I can look it up?

There don't seem to be any state requirements. What county are you in?

Even though there might not be laws regulating the location or size of a range, your friend would still be liable for any damage done by strays. He better have good insurance!

My friend owns the house not the firing range.

If the gun range won't do anything, and the city/town won't do anything, the next step may be to hire a lawyer and seek an injunction.

Your friend can also try to recover for the damage to his house.

Seems to me a firing range is an ultrahazordous activity where strict liability may be the law. I bet that no matter how careful the range is, they are responsible for the damage of the stray bullets.

That does not put the property owner at ease as all it takes is one bad day and someone can be hurt. A nusiance lawsuit may be in order, but the only result may be for a ton of litigation (and expense) for a list of mitigation factors.

Best answer is to see an attorney. This is not going to be easy or cheap to fix.

I would say to have your friend contact a lawyer but he will have to pay for it. Right now the only damage is a hole in the wall.
