i have been married for 3 years. my wife owes some money to IRS(tax liability before our marriage)on capital gain from sale of the house upon her divorce. what can I do, to be able to file jointly, and not be held responsible for the amount that she owes to Irs? I work, and have income. she does not, and have no income. She pays certain amount every month to IRS according to her contract.
