Liability when accepting payment for contractor

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida

Starting a business where we will would like to market the work of contractors. Instead of accepting a monthly fee we were thinking of taking a comission from the work being done. In fear that the contractors would begin taking our customers we were thinking of having the customer pay us, then we would take a cut, and distribute the rest to the contractor. Does this make us liable for the work being done since we are accepting payment? If this creates a larger liability on us, would there be an easier way?

it sounds like you are acting as a general contractor and yes, you do become liable for just about everything, including a lot of things like liability and workers comp insurance..
