What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California, company HQ in VA.

I was part of a startup company in 2007 and have stock options (assume they're vested for the purposes of the question). The company is private (no IPO). They just acquired a company and I'm wondering if this qualifies as a liquidity event, eg. can I cash out?
