Because buisness at my job is slow I am considering starting a handyman buisness. Because I have no desire to quit my current job I will specialize in small jobs. Anything from roof repair, change an outlet, to mowing a lawn or trimming the bushes. These are all jobs that can be completed evenings & weekends. My question is how do I best protect my personal assets? I have been told to start an LLC but I also have people tell me that this does not entirely protect me. Also, how much insurance do I need to carry & of what type? Doesn't the fact that my buisness has "LLC" in the title tell people that my liability is limited to whatever insurance that I carry & possibly the value of my buisness which is only a few tools? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
