What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

A couple of my friends and I are starting a political association for Christian liberals to engage in voter registration drives, petition signature gathering, etc... We have a workable mission statement, list of traditions, and a statement of faith.

Our question goes to whether or not we can limit membership to those who identify as Christians liberals. We are trying to avoid a situation where conservatives, whom we do love and practice Christ's love toward, join to tear apart our fledgling association and also if we end up with more than one local group we don't want conservative groups of our association on one corner arguing with liberal groups of our association on another corner. We would like to have unity under the Christian liberal banner for our association.

Our first tradition looks like this:

<name withheld> is an association of Christian liberals. Membership is limited to those who identify as Christian liberals; however, the only requirement for membership is adherence to our mission statement, traditions, and statement of faith.

Can we do this? If so, are we doing it correctly? Thank you all for your insights.
