What is the name of your state? Texas

We are planning a non-profit organization, but are unsure of the legal aspects.

First off, we want to have a Charity Walk. Do we need some kind of insurance for this? Such as, if a participator gets injured during the activity, are we responsible? We are trying to avoid any lawsuits, as any other business would.

Another thing, some people write off their donations when they file their taxes, so how would we handle donations? Do we write receipts? Or is there something else we need to do.

One last thing, where would we go to find a lawyer that is in our proximity?
