Not-for_profit corporation disillusionment

New Mexico
I am in a flying club that was set up as a not-for-profit corporation. We are considering disolving the club. If the non-profit and not-for-profit are one in the same, am I to assume that no assets can be distributed to the members once dissolved? We are not a 501(c)(3) organization for tax purposes. That being said, If we dissolve do all our assets have to go to a charitable organization? There seems to be some confusion as far as non vs. not-for. We were set up originally as a way to share the expense of flying not as a charitable organization.
