I live in Massachusetts and have a 7 week old baby. I am very interested in putting off my career and starting a babysitting service from my home. Can you please help me get started by letting me know what is expected of me, my home, number of children I can watch, any necessary licensure. I would appreciate any info anyone can give me.
Thank you.

Child care

You do need a license. I believe you would be classified as a "family day care home." In Massachusetts, the Office of Child Care Services' Licensing Division licenses and monitors child care settings. This office oversees the licensure of day care, group day care and school age child care facilities, family day care homes and large family day care facilities, adoption and foster care agencies, temporary shelters for children for most cities and towns, and residential programs serving children and teen parents. Certain communities do their own licensing of group day care and school age day care. More information on this can be obtained by calling the office or from their Web Site at the link below. It also provides assistance in meeting standards or in developing programs.
