What is the name of your state? illinois ....i am starting a clerical services business. i have filed an assumed name certificate with the county. do i need to file anything with the secretary of state. i am not incorporating at this time.

No, but you'd better check with your city hall for a D.B.A. registration. And make sure that the zoning commission has allowed home-based businesses in your area.
