What is the name of your state? California

My husband incorporated in December 2000 (non-profit religious organization). Since that time, has basically done nothing with it...no financial activity, no activity of any kind.

Unfortunately, I don't think he understood that he also had to apply for tax-exempt status with the state of California. He didn't, now the state says we owe the minimum tax, $800.

My question is this: do we have to pay the tax, even if corporation has been totally inactive/non-operational?

Our only income at this time comes from SSI (my husband and stepson are both disabled.) Needless to say, we can't pay this tax!

Thanks in advance.
