I moved and used my electric company's online service forms to request service be turned on in my new house on 6/5 and service at my old address be shut off on 6/12. I received an email verifying this but have since deleted it. I have a letter from my previous landlord telling me I had to be out by 6/17 due to the sale of the house. I had service at my new address on 6/5 and moved out of the old house on 6/10.
I wondered why I never got a final bill from my old address and called. Turns out they now have no record of my requests. Is there anything I can do so I don't have to pay for a month's worth of service for a house I didn't live in?

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

Well, if you can somehow prove the new service was turned on on the fifth (new bill?/move in papers like new lease?) and that other bills were changed as far as service or address on or near the 12th for the old place, that may help prove it. Always do these types of transactions via the phone, where the operator can input it directly into the computer.

Hope this helps.
