Hi,

I moved to Chicago in December 2005. Started my new job in January 2006. I filed 1040EZ at that time for the year 2005. I never thought of claiming the move on my tax return. Now, I am filing for the year 2006. Can I deduct my moving expenses on the 1040 form? I pass the distance & time tests, and I moved for a job a did in 2006, but my actual move was in dec. 2005. Can I still deduct my move? Please, help me out. Thanks!

AndyWhat is the name of your state?

You must deduct moving expenses in the tax year you pay them. You can amend your 2005 federal (& state) returns. See a tax pro. Wait 2 weeks for the peak season to slow down a bit, though.....
