Michigan: If someone umpired in a local association (not run by the city and without a signed contract stating whether they were an independant contractor or employee) and the association sends them a 1099-misc form at the end of the year. Can the Association be liable for any injuries or workmans comp that may occur while they are umpiring because they sent them the 1099 MISC form and they had no contract?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
